If you are looking for the fastest and most efficient ways to burn extra fat or simply stay in shape, here's a list of workouts that have worked best for me from time to time:
(1) Power yoga - "I feel as though my heart is about to explode" dats how i describe my power yoga workout session to my friends. If you are looking for a serious, exhausting workout, my vote goes to the good old power yoga. Most of all, the Surya Namaskaar works and tones the entire body and sends the blood rushing to the head. It is the BEST.
(2) Spinning - This is what i like to call my 'party workout'. Amazing music, mostly dance tracks set the pulse racing and the lighting adds to the mood. Its like working out at a club. Fun, youthful yet energetic way to break a sweat. Plus a group of upbeat spinners and a motivating trainer drive you to achieve better results.
(3) Swimming - Simply fun. If you wish to workout without feeling like you have worked out, swimming will help burn some serious calories in a fun way. Imagine 20 laps in an hour, you should get out of the pool feeling you have done a purposeful workout and still feel relaxed at the same time.
(4) Kick boxing - Had a terrible day at office? Want to vent it out on a punching bag? Kick boxing should serve the purpose. On a serious note, the kicks tone the lower body and abdominal area as well whereas the punches help tone your arms, so again a full body workout. In addition, you add a little to your martial arts skill sets.
(5) Jogging - Dont have the money for gym membership or expensive classes? Get in those track pants and sneakers and start jogging. If that sounds like a difficuilt task, start by walking 20 minutes and gradually, as your body gets accustomed to a new regime, start brisk walking and eventually jogging. Jogging at intervals should get the best results (as in brisk walk for 2 minutes followed by a 3 minute jog follwed by brisk walking for 2 minutes and so on for a particular session of 15 minutes.)
Important : Please consult and check with your physician before embarking on any physical activity. Do not start any strenous workout if you are suffering from back or knee problems or any other ailments. Have appropriate gear, footwear fit for the particular workout and have a professional trainer to guide you properly through you journey.. Always start with warm ups and end workouts with a cool down. Your trainer should be able to educate you more extensivley on the subject. Stay hydrated by taking regular tiny sips of water or energy drink in between workouts to avoid cramps and fatigue. Stretch regularly and stretch right. And most of all listen to your body and do only as much as you can without injuring yourself. All the Best!
